SHALS, the homegrown fashion brand known for elevating everyday basics, recently hosted SHALStainable, an event aimed to promote circular fashion in fashion communities in LMP Events Hall, Lumi Tropicana. The initiative, part of SHALS’s community platform UniverSHALS, celebrates circular fashion by promoting resale, upcycling, and preloved clothing—giving garments a second life while fostering community engagement.
With the vintage fashion market skyrocketing in recent times, it is now more than ever a fantastic time to get into the preloved scene as more and more people are starting to truly appreciate these pieces for what they truly can offer. However, despite the growing amounts of pop ups, some locals are still finding it challenging to venture beyond familiar fashion trends. And with the fashion community often appearing intimidating, many find themselves struggling to pierce into this deeply intriguing vintage scene.
Meet UniverSHALS, a community driven platform by SHALS, the contemporary Malaysian fashion brand celebrated for its sleek, edgy, yet comfortable designs. The platform aims to cultivate a space around fashion sensibility and awareness where fashion enthusiasts and newcomers alike can connect, explore their style, and express their individuality. And with events like their KLFW 2024 Feature : COMING OF AGE, they are certainly no strangers to creating innovative and engaging fashion experiences! But with their next undertaking, they want to really foster a real community around fashion awareness and their way of doing it is through SHALStainable.
Held in the discreet event halls of LMP, Lumi Tropicana. SHALStainable is an event not just focusing on preloved items, but building a community thats fashion sensible that really wants to appreciate these pieces. The event celebrates giving clothes a second life—whether through resale, preloved treasures, or contemporary reinvention via upcycling. It brings together brands and creators who share the same reverence for their pieces, transforming old and vintage garments into renewed expressions of style, and releasing that positive energy back into the fashion community.
But more than ever, SHALStainable aims to make exploring preloved fashion an enjoyable and accessible experience for everyone. Participating brands—including SHALS, ALIA B, Tangsi Tujuh, Nuria, Ayaaya Studios, and vintage curator Archive Gems—showcased their own takes on sustainable style. Friends of SHALS, from KOLs and celebrities to stylists, contributed pieces from their personal wardrobes, with notable names such as Awal Ashaari, Scha Alyahya, Fiza Frizzy, Tyra Kamaruzzaman, and many others taking part.
The goal is to highlight that circular fashion isn’t just for a select few—it’s a movement everyone can join.
More than just fashion, the event is filled with energy with good music by DJ Dan Fleischer setting the mood for the evening with his electric sound with groovy rhythms and upbeat tracks. And with other activities (like this mini Nickelodeon Kart Racers competition!), the event sets the vibe to be a light hearted event for anyone to get interested in participating in the local fashion community!
Through SHALStainable, UniverSHALS fosters a mindful fashion culture—encouraging us to rethink the value of clothing, extend its lifecycle, and embrace sustainable consumption. The initiative reflects SHALS’s ongoing commitment to making sustainability a shared lifestyle.
If you missed out on the event and want to learn more, keep up with UNIVERSHALS for upcoming events because this will certainly not be the last!
